In the context of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, Kharkiv’s cultural institutions have assumed a vital role in the protection of Ukraine’s cultural heritage. Despite the persistent threat of bombings and shelling, the staff of archival, library, and museum institutions continue their dedicated work. Their efforts are directed not only toward the preservation of unique collections, documents, and bodies of knowledge, but also toward the promotion of cultural values.
The video showcases the work of two of Kharkiv’s leading cultural institutions – the Central State Scientific-Technical Archive of Ukraine and the V.H.Korolenko Kharkiv State Science Library – both partners of the CityFace Research Initiative. Particular attention is given to the professionalism, sense of responsibility, and unwavering dedication of their directors – Marat Balyshev (Archive) and Natalia Petrenko (Library) – as well as to the staff who ensure the uninterrupted operation of these institutions under exceptionally challenging conditions.
A key pillar of the resilience demonstrated by Ukraine’s cultural institutions in wartime has been their active collaboration with international partners, particularly Polish volunteers and institutions. This international solidarity provides not only material support but also affirms a collective responsibility for the preservation of Ukraine’s cultural heritage as an integral part of the European cultural space.
